Install
Section titled “Install”pip install portlightRequires Python 3.11+. No Python? Use npx @mcptoolshop/portlight instead.
Start a new game
Section titled “Start a new game”portlight new "Your Name" --type merchantOr run portlight new "Your Name" without --type for the interactive captain selection roster.
Captain types

Start with merchant for your first run. It has the smoothest early game.

- Provisions. You consume one per day at sea. Buy before long voyages:

What to ignore at first
Section titled “What to ignore at first”- Contracts — wait until you understand route profitability
- Infrastructure — wait until you have 500+ silver and a steady income loop
- Insurance and credit — mid-game tools, not early priorities
- Victory paths — tracked automatically, check with
portlight milestones - Combat gear — buy a weapon when you can afford it, not before
